  • HIB School District and School Grades
Required by the Anti-Bullying Bill of HIB Policy and Information Rights Act

Beginning with the September 2011-2012 school year, our school district has conscientiously implemented the requirements found in the
Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act by revising our district policy on Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying in order to keep it current with the standards of the law. The district has enacted annual programs district wide to reinforce the importance of good character and citizenship among our student population. During the first three years of implementation of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, our school district has made progress in addressing and improving harassment, intimidation and bullying and the school climate and culture by recognizing October as the Month of Safety & Respect in the Little Ferry School District. Each year we continue with our Caught Being Kind Program, where students are “caught” and rewarded for their random acts of kindness. We continue the momentum throughout each school year with quality character education programs across all grade levels. Our school safety team continues to meet in an effort to assess the school climate, programs and policy in an effort to offer suggestions for continued improvement. What’s more our teachers are actively implementing teachable moments into the daily curriculum where they various opportunities to emphasize the importance of good character and citizenship.

    In
order to foster safe and positive learning conditions for students, the school and district grades are part of an integrated process for reinforcing and strengthening a school’s climate and culture through prevention and intervention efforts targeted toward harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB). District and school staff are encouraged to use the data to educate staff and the community about current school practices and engage them in identifying and addressing areas for improvement.

The Department of Education is not issuing any associated value or ranking for the raw and average scores. The raw and average scores reflect the school and school district’s degree of compliance with the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act (ABR), as determined primarily through each school’s self-assessment of its implementation of the ABR.
