As the 2014-2015 school year comes to a close, I want to let you know how much our staff appreciates the partnership we have developed in working with you and your children this year. It is evident that our students have blossomed academically, socially, and emotionally. We’re proud of our students and all their wonderful learning. It was a challenge to develop our skills and knowledge working with Journeys, the new English Language Arts program, but we are eager for next year when we can build on our experiences and enhance the program by integrating a guided reading approach. Our goal is to have our students loving to read! This year we also initiated our Writers Workshop. Teachers met regularly with our Literacy Specialist, Ms. Wood to collaborate and adjust teaching strategies according to this new writing program. We were able to see tremendous growth from the first writing piece of the year to the final one. The students love to write!
In a year when we were sharply focused on reading and writing, we were thrilled to reflect on the many additional projects, experiences, and guests provided to our children. Without family and community support through volunteerism and the PTA, we would not have such rich experiences. For example, we loved that the kids were able to show off their talents at the first annual Little Ferry’s Got Talent and connect with local community members such as Mayor Raguseo ,Detective Callahan, and the Ladies Auxiliary to name a few. We believe that these types of learning opportunities are more than enrichment; they are essential experiences that inspire, provide connections, and develop curiosity - all critical pieces of learning.
